Opel has officially unveiled the new sixth-generation Corsa which is the German carmakers most popular model. The first version launched will be this Corsa-e derivative which is for the first time a full battery electric car. there will be petrol and diesel models added to the range later on. 100kw, that’s the rated power output of this new electric Corsa, combined with 260nm it promises to be spritely, and with claimed sprint figures of 8.9 seconds to hit 100kmh mark it seems as though it is. For around town driving it should be a hoot too as the 0-50kmh time of 2.8 seconds which is quicker than the new Fiesta ST.
Those of you who have range anxiety need not worry with a claimed 330km out of a charge it should satisfy most day to day use comfortably. The driving modes are available – Normal, Eco and Sport all three affect responsiveness and range accordingly with the latter being the most responsive but having a shorter range. In the looks department, Opel have applied their new design language and I think they have done a great job, it looks proportionally correct. It is also not overstyled or bland like a lot of the competition.
A full digital drivers display and standard 7″ Touch screen multimedia “Opel Connect” system as standard with a option 10″ screen with live navigation and real-time traffic updates. Leather will also be an option on the new Corsa, I dont have much more info on interior options but will update as soon as i know more. New safety features include Opels IntelliLux LED matrix light as found on the Astra, the system uses a front camera to monitor surroundings and traffic to adapt the light beam accordingly.
The New Sixth Gen Corsa -e’s Battery will be covered by an 8-year warranty and can be fat charged to 80% in 30 minutes, the charge status can also be managed by using the “myOpel” app.
The Corsa will be available in the next few weeks and pricing isn’t released yet but expect it to be around the same pricing as its competition.
