2020 KTM 790 Adventure R Rally

KTM 790 Adventure R Rally

Is this KTM’s best bike on sale today?

If you are looking for something truly menacing off-road but a 450 enduro bike is too compromised I think we have found the solution. The Rally version of KTM’s 790 ADV R is the third instalment in the range and is the most hardcore version. KTM will be limiting this Rally version to only 500 models adding even more exclusivity. Developed ideally for the most hardcore of adventure riders KTM took inspiration from their Dakar winning 450 Rally bikes to create this beast.

Rally Ride comfort

Starting with the 790 ADV R as the platform, which is a highly capable place to start KTM left the steel trellis frame as is, instead they replaced the current suspension with WP’s XPLOR PRO suspension. Upfront the fork is the WP XPLOR PRO 7548 which uses unique cone valve technology with almost limitless damping performance and bottoming resistance. The rear end is suspended by the WP XPLOR PRO 6746 shock absorber with a progressive damping system and both front and rear suspension travel has been increased by 30mm.

Get up and Go!

Employing the same 799cc LC8c parallel twin found in the standard 790 adv with respectable outputs of 70kw(94hp) and 88nm the 790 has plenty of poke for on and offroad use. The low slung 20l fuel tank should give the 790 Rally fairly good range of up to 400km making it a useful touring option, another advantage of the low slung tank is the weight is kept very low in the chassis making it very nimble. The electronics package is fairly comprehensive with several different modes including an off-road ABS function which disables the rear brake ABS and lightens the fronts intervention. Speaking of brakes the Rally is brought to a stop using twin 320mm discs up front and 260mm disc at the rear.

Low slung fuel tanks, I recommend crash bars!

Pricing and availability at you local dealers is due to be released in the next couple of weeks.
